Every month I teach a little homeschool art class, something we started when little Abear was only 3.5 years old. It’s been held in our kitchen or park for years now, a place where I can learn right alongside these little sponges.
This year was so full I knew I couldn’t teach weekly, so we brought it down to once a month. I think we’ve found a sweet balance for teacher, moms, and kiddos. One thing I wouldn’t give up though was our yearly celebration, our special Christmas party honoring the Savior who came down. We read advent together, lit the candle reminding us of the Light of the world, learned about the first nativity scene (it started in the 1200’s!), and the kids made a couple of ornaments before we all did the candle project. The project didn’t necessarily go perfectly or smoothly, and after the kids left I ended up spilling a lot of hot wax on the stove top, floor, cabinet, and fridge - but art imitates life, and life is always rather unexpected. Thankfully we got some good candles, candles I hope will remind these little ones of Christ every time they see that small flame burn bright. <3
